Hanson's staff has designed, rehabilitated and inspected numerous earth and concrete dams nationwide and in several foreign countries. This record includes inspection of 108 dams in the Midwest for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the National Dam Safety Program.

Hanson is internationally recognized for its dam design and rehabilitation expertise, and has been providing these services to government and industry for more than 50 years. We provide environmental permitting and geotechnical, structural and hydraulic engineering services on flood control projects, and have designed, rehabilitated and inspected numerous earth and concrete dams nationwide and in several foreign countries. Our hydroelectric dam experience includes the Rincon Dam, Hatillo Dam, Moncion Dam and Sabaneta Dam for the National Institute for Hydraulic Research in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

For new dams, Hanson has completed area reconnaissance studies to determine the most favorable location for a proposed dam based on environmental concerns, geologic, subsurface and hydrologic/hydraulic information. After the most favorable location has been selected, more detailed investigations have been completed to finalize all design features and to prepare plans and specifications.

For existing dams, Hanson has been retained to investigate and develop recommendations for the repair of geotechnical, hydraulic and structural problems. This has varied from seepage, piping and erosion and stability problems due to hydraulic and structural deficiencies. For these projects, we have developed plans and specifications for repair and supervised construction.
